OUR PREPARATORY SCHOOL | GRADES 1 TO 7

Our Junior Primary teachers work closely together, ensuring a smooth transition from Stage 5 to Grade 1. Small classes ensure that the start of formal schooling is exciting, caring, individualised and challenging, rather than daunting and overwhelming, allowing teachers to build upon a firm Stage 5 foundation.

We have customised our unique Reddam approach to teaching reading maximising children’s opportunities to learn. Our literacy programme includes developmentally appropriate instruction in which younger children learn about letter sounds, patterns and word structures combined with a meaning-focused instruction where students learn about vocabulary, text structure, discourse, genre and communication patterns.

Our numeracy programme is based on the Singapore math method which is focused on mastery achieved through intentional sequencing of concepts. Some of the key features of the approach include the concrete, pictorial, abstract progression, number bonds, bar modelling, and mental math.

Instead of pushing rote memorization, children learn to think mathematically and rely on their depth of knowledge gained in previous lessons. Singapore math not only helps children become more successful problem solvers, it helps them gain a sense of confidence and resourcefulness because it insists on conceptual depth. This naturally prepares children to excel in more advanced math in the senior primary.
